Good Sam’s Coffee and Doughnut Ministry begins Monday Aug. 11nth, at 6:30am

Every Monday morning from 6:30-7:30am, Good Samaritan will offer FREE coffee and doughnuts to people who stop in our parking lot. It’s a way to say good morning to folks on their way to work or school. It will let them know we are here and that we care about them. Coffee and doughnuts will be brought to each car so that the driver will not have to get out of the vehicle.

Feel free to volunteer.

Internet Ministry Group’s next meeting Aug 27 @ 7pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Through meetup.com Good Samaritan is becoming the host of The Internet Ministry Group. It will meet at the church 7pm, August 27th.

We had a small but very powerful meeting in July.

This group is open to any Christian who is interested in developing internet ministry skills. The hope is that this will become a resource for the Christian community in our area.

Worship & Music @ Good Samaritan

We had very good discussions about our worship and music for three Sundays in July. There will be a few changes. We are doing intercession Form 2. We are praying the names from the prayer list corporately. This is giving us greater awareness and ownership of our prayer ministry.

We will be introducing a few more contemporary hymns during the summer and fall during the “sequence,” or hymn before the gospel.

Everybody seems to be happy with a little less chanting. So we’ll say the gospel, and Lord’s Prayer.

There was discussion about installing an altar rail. There was no consensus so we’ll revisit that subject sometime in the future.

People seemed happy with the discussion format, having two minute homilies, and longer presentations and conversation at announcement time. We will utilize this format from time to time for instruction and discussion.

The Larry Pruitt Stained Glass Project

We have had many gifts in honor of Larry to support his vision of true stained glass windows at Good Samaritan.

Here are some things to remember. The designs will be in keeping with the style of the building and campus. They will have a traditional look to them. They will have Christian symbols which will be fairly easy to execute, with no figures that require painting. For those who are “giving a window,” the name of the person you are giving it in memory of will have a small plaque at the base of the same. If you have questions or comments visit with Fr. Bill+

MDP Committee

Many thanks to the MDP Committee who worked with Roger Button since the beginning of the year.  The members were Betsy Attel, Chair, Margaret Hastings, Susan Walker, and David Tuck.

Larry Pruitt RIP

It is customary to have several requiems for the departed after the funeral mass. One may be eight days after someone’s death, 30 days after, and then annually.

Yesterday late in the afternoon our beloved Larry Pruitt departed this life. I had the blessing of being with him only an hour before he died.

There will be a lot to say in the near future. For now Larry was prepared for death in every way. It was an honor for me to know him and be with him.

Larry’s “funeral plans,” may be a little bit different from what many are used to experiencing. Larry’s funeral will go from 7pm on Friday the 19th til about noon on Saturday the 20th.

We have found that the death of a member of our Christian  family is not something that can be dealt with in a short service. We lived with Larry and he with us for years. We want to take time to pray for Larry, as well as to share stories of our lives with Larry. We are a community coming together to laugh, cry, and share sadness and triumphant Joy!

We begin with Vespers at 7pm Friday June 19th. This is the service that sets the stage for all to come. We begin by praying for Larry. We believe that our prayer does make a difference. We are not helpless in the face of death. Through our prayer we are connected to Larry. How? Because when we pray to God we pray to the one who created Larry, and raises Larry from the dead! God is our connection to Larry, and there can be no better one. Vespers helps us focus on being at prayer for Larry. We are here to do for him, just as we did when he was on this earth. Remember Larry prays for us too, right now just as he did before he died. Larry’s remains lie in state in the church from the beginning of Vespers to the end of the Requiem Mass.

Next come The Wake, and The Watch, paired events. The Wake is a party held in Larry’s honor. It is the proper time for eulogies. Those who wish to share their thoughts about Larry may do so. It’s the time to visit with Larry’s family and pay their respects to them. The Wake will be held in The Parish Hall. While the Wake is going on there is time to pray in the church for Larry. His remains will stay there. You can go back and forth from the Wake to the Watch as often as you like. The Watch will end at midnight.

The Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning June 20th at 10:15am. It is the culminating event in Larry’s funeral. A mass is a service of communion, the sharing of Jesus Body and Blood. This sacrament is a primary link that we have with God in His Kingdom. We experience Larry’s death in the context of the death and resurrection of Jesus through the prayer of consecration and the receiving of communion. We pray this mass as the greatest act of intercession we can offer for Larry, remembering that this is what Larry did Sunday after Sunday at Good Samaritan.

If you wish to make a memorial gift you may do so to Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, note memorial, or stained glass fund.

Vestry Approves Stained Glass Project!!!!!!!

In a bold move the Bishop’s Committee approved the beginning of The Stained Glass Project. The scope of the project will be to design and execute six windows. Five would be floor to ceiling windows, four of which would replace the colored windows currently in place. One would be constructed where the first station now resides, while the last would be smaller in conjunction with the door to the playground.

The windows will be traditional in nature, congruent with the style of our buildings.

The opportunity will be given to donate a window, dedicated to the Glory of God and in memory of, … .
